As a last resort your doctor might refer you to a dermatologist. This can become quite expensive as he is, after all, a skin specialist.
Consider this first. One of the definitions of insanity is "Doing the same things over and over but expecting different results." If you are not doing anything but washing your acne areas, treating the pimples with medication and this is not curing your acne, then sooner or later, you will begin to wonder - Is this external treatment ever going to cure my acne?
Of course, acne sufferers are not insane but if you don't know your options and go right to the dermatologist, you might be jumping the gun. The dermatologist has a whole battery of weapons against acne: prescription drugs, laser treatments, etc. But many times, just treating the symptoms alone is not a real cure.
The heart of the acne problem begins with an over-abundance of sebum, oily sweat that is suddenly flooding the teenager's body. It is a hormonal change that all teens will go through. This over-production of sebum builds to clog and infect the skin pores, causing pimples. The sebum output is loaded with bacteria because this is one of the ways the body eliminates bacteria through the sweat.
The major cause of acne is the waste and toxins that flood the system, feeding bacteria that is eliminated through the production of sweat. The bowels, liver and kidneys do function properly at eliminating bacteria.
Your skin will start to eliminate more bacteria if these organs are overloaded or are not working properly. If your organs work properly you only have a small chance of getting acne, where as someone else who's organs are not functioning properly have a much greater chance.
Sweating out bacteria is a normal function ordinarily. But when the wrong foods are ingested and your hormones are kicking out more oily sweat anyway, you will get more bacteria eliminated through the skins pores. The human body works very hard to eliminate all bacteria from the body so the internal system does not become infected.
This sebum, produced by sebaceous glands, clogs the pores and infects them with bacteria. The end result is pimples. Pimples are awful, but are only the symptom of deeper problems.
As stated before, too much oily sweat and toxins clog the skin pores and cause acne. These both start inside the body; therefore you have to start fighting acne from inside.
By cleansing the body's internal system from the inside, you are fighting acne at the core from where it all begins. This should always be the first major step in curing the acne condition. When acne sufferers don't work from the inside out, they are not attacking the real issue. This is the major reason why acne sufferers that only use external medications and treatments keep having reoccurring outbreaks.
It is unfortunate, but we cannot take a pill and forget about the acne as it starts to go away.
Acne always starts internally, therefore solving the problem inside together with treating the symptoms externally would be the ideal treatment.
