There are some effective steps when potty training a dog; following these steps will free you from the hassle and annoyance of cleaning up your pet's urine and feces every now and then. This works especially with puppies that urinates and defecates several times especially after every feeding. Think of the burden that you will face when you don't train them properly. You will probably be cleaning their mess all day long!
Make it a point to start potty training a dog when it is still young. Make it a habit to take him to a specific corner every time he needs to urinate or defecate. You should to do this to make him be accustomed where he needs to do his voiding every time he needs to.
Be watchful of your dog's action usually after eating. Constantly smelling the floor may suggest that the dog needs to poop or pee. Once you saw your dog act like these; take him along to that specific spot where he should void. This is another tip when potty training a dog, which can be very helpful in familiarizing the dog on where to go and what to do when he feels the need to void.
Next step is to familiarize the dog about a specific command that you will utter every time you observe that he needs to urinate or defecate. This is often carried out when you have observed that the dog is now accustomed to where he needs to go for a poop or pee. Try to say this command phrase every time you see the indicative signals for voiding. One phrase that you can use as a command for voiding is "Go out and poop/pee."
Patience is one desirable character that is important when potty training your dog. At times, when the dog doesn't seem to follow your instructions, never yell or say words expressing anger. If he poop or pee on the wrong spot, just pick up the poop or pee. Be not frustrated, there will be a time wherein your dog will soon learn the proper place for him to go to when he needs to void.
Dogs like humans also have feelings. They also love to hear praises for a job well done. Remember to commend your dog whenever he poops or pees in the proper spot. This is another essential tip when potty training a dog.
