Causes of Back Pain, Yoga for back Pain Relief

Back Pain, especially in the lower back (lumbar spine), is a problem that most people experience at some time in their lives. The muscles that support the spine are in constant use; even while simply sitting, the muscles are in use to keep one from falling over. The spine also bends, straightens and twists. This constant stress on the back can result in back strain and pain.

The first step to understanding the various causes of low back pain is learning about the normal design (anatomy) of the tissues of this area. Important structures of the low back that can be related to symptoms there include the bony lumbar spine (vertebrae), discs between the vertebrae, ligaments around the spine and discs, spinal cord and nerves, muscles of the low back, internal organs of the pelvis and abdomen, and the skin covering the lumbar area

Pain in the back is experienced by almost every person in his lifetime. There can be many back pain causes. Among women, the most common cause for back pain is considered to be pregnancy. During this phase, her body changes in many ways. Pregnancy changes not only her physical appearance but also the body composition. It is considered to be the most critical phase during which special care needs to be taken. Everything including the diet, postures, movements of the body, and so on should be considered important. Generally, the changes in the body composition lead to deficiency of essential components of the body.

Yoga is an excellent way to keep the body limber and in shape. Yoga breathing exercises (pranayama) gently work the muscles of the upper back. The yoga breathing exercises and postures also have the potential to reduce much of the tension and stress that can contribute to back pain. A primary focus of yoga is therapeutic relaxation through gentle exercise and meditation. Yoga teachers believe that by focusing the mind inward, one is able to profoundly relax and revitalize the body and achieve a greater sense of harmony and well-being. It can also help you be aware of your bodies and emotions. It can help you lessen back pain by making you aware of what brings it on.

There are many different yoga poses and stretches that will help you considerably with your back pain. You can go to your library and check out many books on yoga or you can just search online and find plenty of advice on how to do certain moves properly. If you lack discipline, then maybe signing up for a class is best so that you can force yourself to go or get a partner to make sure you go.

It is very important to make sure that exercise is the right treatment for your particular condition. It is wise to consult a doctor before starting any exercise program.

Yoga is a fantastic physical and mental activity. It might not cure every type of pain, but it will increase your general health. A physically and mentally healthy person is always more prepared to deal with back pain than a person in poor health.
