Have you ever watched ‘Intervention’ on A&E? Have you ever wondered how difficult it might be for friends and families to see their loved one go through such turmoil? Have you ever felt worried that you might be on the other side of the screen? Taking your life to such an end where you desperately need help and at times do not even know that you need one, does not happen in a single day. It takes days of negligence and ignoring signs of problems cropping up in your teenagers life that lead to such a time. So try and stop it at an early stage – nip it at the bud as they say. There are many troubled teen programs that are directed towards helping your troubled youth identify the right way to live life. You must also understand that prolonged time in a state of misguided existence may also lead to your child relapsing to that state even after cure. So yes, in such situations, how much ever harsh I may sound, the sooner you take a bold step the better it is.
Troubled youth programs are nothing to fear off. These are not unqualified programs but are rather instructionally designed so as to encourage the child’s cognitive understanding. The programs are structured such that the strengths of the troubled youths are identified and then the teenagers are enabled to utilize those strengths in a positive way. Remember that their strength must be recognized and nurtured in a positive way. Do not think that troubled youths are a weak lot with no resilience and determination.
It takes a lot of strength and courage to defy the whole authority and proclaim independence while knowing that he really does not have neither monetary nor physical support to carry it off. This strength or courage needs to be converted in to moral conviction. Unless your child knows that he is capable of great things, chances are that he will never truly appreciate what he has. This self-destructive force can easily be utilized in helping them do constructive things. Troubled youth programs are designed to enable the child in a positive way. The key is identifying the positive points and using those effectively.
Many successful troubled youth programs have helped in building strong individuals. Many reformed teenager have later became parts of these youth programs helping more troubles youth get back in life. Since the reformed kids know the inner turmoil better, since they have a stronger understanding and identification with the kid at the other end of the table, these boys could be strong support pillars of such programs at a later stage. Do not misread your child’ rebellion as only his deterioration, hidden in that rebellion is his strength to do right things.
