Why Cats Make Ideal Pets

Generally, a person refers to himself or herself as a cat lover or a dog lover and the arguments as to which is the better of the two pets has raged for decades. There are some who appreciate the qualities of each animal, but these individuals are able to see the strong points in the way that each reacts with its owner and with the world in general. It is interesting that appreciation for the unique qualities for cats as pets usually is expressed in terms of what they are not rather than what they are. Here are just a few of the reasons why cats make good pets
* Cats are very independent pets. While they can be deeply bonded with the owner, they are also able to go about the home or apartment and trust that you will not sneak away from them if they can't keep you in view every second. The expression 'Get a life" does not apply to cats. They don't grovel and they don't fawn over you when you return from work or from a soak in the tub. Cats don't need constant reassurance that they are the first being in your life, they just assume that it is so and move on from there.
* Cats as pets are not fragile in forming relationships. They exude a self assurance which humans may regard as being aloof or even cold. However, cats are far from being aloof or unfeeling. They love their owners and love deeply. When a cat chooses to come to you and sit quietly in your lap or to look into your eyes while purring, you will understand the concept of being well loved. Don't mistake a sense of self and a spirit of independence for lack of affection.
* One of the best reasons for choosing a feline as one of your pets is that they are so entertaining. Nothing is quite as comical as watching a kitten play with almost any object that is within reach. Even adult cats occasionally forget their dignity and romp enthusiastically with their owner. Adult cats will tend to spend more time watching the goings on around them which can be calming for the pet owner as well. Of course, cats would never admit to being embarrassed at a clumsy fall or other assaults upon their dignity. They do expect that you will show proper appreciation when they bring some of their fresh killed 'dinner' to you. That is less of a problem in the home of a city cat than for those felines who live in the country.
One other important advantage of choosing cats for pets is the ability to deal with waste by using a litter box. You don't need to be tied to twice daily walks in the park in order that your pets can relieve themselves. Grooming and cleaning is an important part of the cat's daily activities so you may find that pet dander is less of a problem for individuals who suffer allergies.
