Many people do not realize that your dog is in need of good dental care. This form of pet caring is just as critical for Rover as for his owner. Dog's teeth can become covered with dental plaque in the same way that the owner's teeth can gather plaque while eating. When plaque begins to build up and the coating on the teeth hardens it be changes to a brown materials that is known as tartar.

* Good dental care as part of pet caring prevents the tartar buildup that occurs when the buildup happens under the gums of the dog thus becoming the origination of gum disease and infections. This process occurs in the mouths of people and the same happens in the oral cavity of their pet canine.

* The owners are counseled to be sure and brush after every meal and to use mouthwash to kill the bacteria that is a leading cause of periodontal disease, but the pet must depend on pet caring on the part of the owner in order to reach the same goal.

* Veterinarians state that responsible pet caring means brushing Fido's teeth a couple times per week. Pet stores carry specially designed doggy toothbrushes and pet toothpaste. The choice of dog toothpaste should made with the knowledge that mint toothpaste or the types that leave the owner's mouth tingly and fresh can be very unpleasant to the dog whose sense of taste is much more sensitive than that of the owner.

* Not every pet owner is willing to take pet caring to the level of brushing their dog's teeth twice weekly, so it is fortunate that the pet's natural inclination to gnaw on bones or biscuits can be used as a dental care process. Although the crunchy biscuit is not a complete substitute for regular brushing and dental care, chewing up the dog biscuits into small pieces that rub against the plaque helps to break it up so that it doesn't harden and become the troublesome tartar deposits.

* Caring for your pet adequately is part of the responsibility of you as a pet owner.

Good dental care is vital to ensure that the pet doesn't contract various types of mouth diseases. Just as humans can contact the relatively mild mouth infection known as gingivitis, the pet who doesn't have access to effective dental cleaning foods can end up with a persistent dental infection. More serious types of infection can cause major organ damage if the bacteria gets into the pet's bloodstream.

* Many pet caring owners elect to obtain specialized dental services for their dog.

Animal dental care specialists can extract teeth, fill teeth and even cap teeth is necessary, just as the owner would do for their own dental care. However, these procedures are expensive and could be avoided by proper preventative dental care of then pet's teeth.

Just as with the owner, a toothache is painful and not something a beloved pet should endure. Pet caring means doing everything possible to avoid unnecessary dental problems with your pet.
