Before jumping into the topic of travel agent training, let us discuss something about the travel agents. Travel agents are individual who plans the accommodation and transportation for their clients. They also provide suggestions regarding destinations, activities, tours, exhibitions, attractions and cruise lines. They often work and arrange the travel needs of business people. Travel agents take the help of internet to acquire information such as air travel departure and arrival times, attractions and activities, hotel reservations as well as looking for discounts and bargains. At intervals, travel agents visits the hotels, restaurants, resorts that they propose to their clients to check the features of the destinations. A number of agents work mainly with travel specialty companies and tour operators to boost their vacation packages. They also advertise travel programs to social groups, a number of organizations through internet, direct mail, and telemarketing. The main responsibilities of a travel agent includes: arranging transportation and accommodation, recommending offers for travel destinations, locating bargains and discounts for their clients, checking the required papers like passports and visas for all their client's destination.

Now, let us start the education and training part. Generally, a travel agent should be diploma certified in school. Various vocational schools provide travel agent training programs. Agents having an extensive traveling background, training in foreign languages, training in computers and geography along with good communication skills are highly preferred. Actually, some agents initiate their careers as reservation clerks or receptionists in travel agencies.

A convincing volume of the training is provided on the job. Much importance is given to training with reservation systems. Travel agents often take repeated training classes so that it would be very helpful to clients that have become knowledgeable about the various visible features of traveling due to examining travel related information on the internet. Travel agents with experience are fit to get the Certified Travel Associate and Certified Travel Counselor certificates provided by certified Travel institutes.
