With a coastline in excess of eighteen kilometers, it is no wonder that the town of Port Dickson continues to be admired by locals and tourists alike. It is wonderfully lined with evocative palm trees and plant life, and the gently lapping waters of the Strait of Malacca just add to the appeal of this beach resort town in the state of Negeri Sembilan.
Though the beaches that make up the coastline of Port Dickson are many and varied; there are two clear favorites. Teluk Kemang is the first of these, and located on the ninth mile of the coastal road. It is one of the single longest beaches of the region, and plays host to a wide range of water sports.
Also popular, and certainly with those not wanting a great deal of activity around them, The Blue Lagoon is a relaxing breakaway. There is still plenty to do in the region just nine miles south of the center of the town, but being just a little off the main road in the region, things are just that little slower paced.
The water plays a central role in the region, and was the first location as the worldwide yachting sport came to the shores of Malaysia some years ago. This tradition continues with the immensely well appointed marina, where yachts people of any age and experience are welcomed.
The activities are not only water based however; with many cultural and historical sites to take not of. Most particularly, the small tin mining village of Lukut shows the traditions of the area through its museum and fort that dominates the scene. For ramblers, there are some wonderful routes along the breathtaking coast too.
As the evening gathers, there are a large number of excellent restaurants to enjoy. Whether you wish to try local dishes, fusion of East and West, or something a little to closer home; there really is something for everyone.
Whilst the area is a magnet for backpackers, who prefer to camp out along the beach, there is a host of superb accommodation options available. Though it has to be said, a night beneath the stars as the sea laps the shore is wonderful.
Indeed, there is yet another veritable galaxy of resorts to enjoy; whilst some excellent private residences can be hired on the beach front. If a Port Dickson hotel is your want however; there are an excellent number of five star places to choose from; from the leading hoteliers of the world.
