There are many factors that can make homes for sale sell fast. Most turn to fixing the basics, some even do major repairs but most overlook the smell of their homes before putting it up on the market. Yes, smell can make or break a sale and many prospective buyers trust their noses when looking for a property to buy.

Your house’s odor can give the buyers glimpse of the underlying problems. If it’s musty, mold problem could be the source. And most can even distinguish if you have pets, the doggy smell gives it away. Good thing, there are easy and not-so-expensive ways to make your house smelling fresh and pleasant before the first potential buyer shows up.

Cleaning the house and ridding it of clutter is a step that you must necessarily take. It can be as simple as taking out the trash everyday. If there’s orange skin available, rub it on your trash bin for a refreshing smell.

You can also ask the cooperation of your family. If you have children, request them to keep their rooms clean and put their stinky shoes in a well-ventilated place. Better yet, have them clean their shoes before it even becomes stinky. Vinegar can help you get rid of the smell. Also, ask them to smoke outside the house so the linens and curtains wouldn’t absorb the odor. An effective way of getting rid of odor is to sprinkle baking soda on bed sheets, pillows and other furniture before vacuuming them the next morning.

Your carpet must be taken to professional cleaners for deep cleaning. Don’t let your dirty laundry lying around for long. Blankets, curtains and bed linens usually absorb unpleasant smell so you can take them to the professionals as well. For the rest of the laundry, use a scented fabric softener.

Every room must be cleaned up especially the kitchen and bathroom. For stubborn dirt on glass enclosures, tiles and countertops, you can mix half cup of vinegar with one gallon of water to get rid of it.

If you have a basement that smells dank, make sure that you add up ventilation and keep the room clean and dry. If you suspect mold buildup, immediately call for professional help to take care of the problem before showing your house to potential buyers.

If you have pets, you may want to put them in a room where there’s no carpet to absorb their smell. Also, make sure that their place is clean all the time. Give your dog regular baths using scented shampoos.

Have oil diffusers handy around the house. Lavender scent is calming and can create a cozy and warm ambiance. Natural cinnamon sticks can also get rid of foul odor so put some wherever it is needed. Vanilla beans can also give off pleasant smell so try breaking a few before the buyers show up. You may also use floral scents to add fresh appeal to your home.

Every home seller naturally wants to sell their property at the right price. So create the perfect homey and good-smelling setting and make every potential buyer want to live in your house.
