Expecting women should visit their dentists to make sure that she and her unborn child will be in excellent shape. The prime method of caring for the teeth of your child even while he is still in the womb is to take good care of yourself as well as your dental health needs. This requires you to go on dental consultations, avoid sweets or starchy food while sticking to a balanced diet and to never forget to brush and floss your teeth after every meal.

Unborn babies already have their teeth developed before their birth day as early as five or six weeks, their tooth buds form already while their tooth crowns come out as soon as they reach the age of three or six months while still in their mom?s tummy. By the time the baby is born, the 20 primary teeth or baby teeth are already present in the baby's jawbone. Until the baby starts to undergo the teething process, his teeth will remain inside the gums even though these are already complete.

The expectant mother must have enough calcium, phosphorous and other vitamins and minerals while her baby?s teeth develop. Nourishing both yourself and your child means that you have to get enough nutrients by sticking to adequate and balanced nutrition. Unlike popular belief, growing babies in the womb do not take the calcium they need from their mothers' teeth. You must listen to your doctor's advice about nutrition during pregnancy as he is adept to know your specific requirements.

A woman would lose a tooth during a pregnancy is basically a myth. If you still experience a lot of tooth decay problems at this important time in your life, it may be due to too much sweets or lack of importance given to oral hygiene. Tooth decay problems are less likely to occur among pregnant women than instances of gingivitis or gum inflammation. This disease is known as pregnancy gingivitis is caused by increased hormone levels among expectant women. The gums undergo an exaggerated reaction to the plaque under the gum line during increases. Even when there are irregularities in hormone activities, pregnant women can avoid gingivitis thru regular check ups and professional dental cleaning.

While pregnant, it is still very safe to have the most dental attention or treatments. If you need oral treatment, it should be made between the fourth and sixth month of gestation. Many women experience anxiety, nausea and nervousness during their initial months of pregnancy. After a while, most pregnant women on their last trimester of pregnancy find it difficult to sit on their dental chairs. This explains why the second trimester proves to be the best time to have your dental procedures done.

X-rays are important in assisting the physician in detecting tooth decay and other health matters which aren't easily visible to the naked eye. If you regularly adhered to a good oral care regimen before getting pregnant, it might not be a necessity to undergo x-ray examinations anymore. If x-rays are necessary, there are several factors which assure their safety like the amount of radiation produced in a dental x-ray is small and exposure time is brief, the x-ray beam is narrow and not normally directed toward the abdomen, and a lead apron is used to protect the abdomen and fetus. With the proper dental care and nutritious diet, you can ensure healthy teeth for your child and less dental problems for the both of you in the future.
