We bought a caravan from Goodalls Caravans of Huddersfield in July '10. Had all the promises and salesmen speak and rather unwisely, we bought the one we liked on the day. They advised us it needed to be serviced and there was a small area of damp that needed attention. This should have rang alarm bells for us but it didn't so we bought it. Suffice to say that we bought it on the Saturday and were promised it by the following Friday and it wasn't 'quite' ready. Although we could take it away for the weekend, we had to bring it back.
We would have brought it back anyway as the service had failed to include a check on the water system as the pipes were left disconnected. The servicing and so called cleaning was an utter shambles, "someone will get shouted at" commented one of the salesmen which wasn't much good to us!, After a flurry of phone calls I managed to fix the problem myself on site.
We took the van back to Goodalls to replace the damp panel which we were told was caused by a leaking window. Next time we went out in the van, two weeks later, there was damp in the opposite corner of the van some 20 feet away near the toilet - I was furious. We took the van back and the smiley salesman offered to fix it. I refused as having since read up on damp, once it is in the skin of the van, that's pretty much it. I wanted my money back and they refused point blank. They hid behind what I consider is a flimsy law and offered to replace or fix. As there was no way they could fix this IMHO, we had to pay an extra 300 quid for the only other van we liked. This left a very bitter taste in my mouth.
Moral of the story, if you even think there is damp in the van, walk away. Would I do business with Goodalls Caravans again - not in a million years. In my opinion there was only one reasonable way to resolve this and that was too give us out money back, however 6 grand is obviously worth a lot more to Goodalls Caravans than their reputation. It seems atrocious to me that if you buy a faulty telly you can take it back. By a faulty caravan and you are lumbered.
