When you are facing a divorce it is usually a very difficult situation. Emotions run high and your family is in turmoil. If you are looking for a way to make things easier on everyone then you might want to consider hiring a divorce mediator. A divorce mediator can help to get you through the divorce process as smoothly as possible.

A divorce mediator is a professional that is trained in divorce law. The mediator can guide you through the divorce process and help to work through any issues that may arise along the way. Unlike a judge, the mediator is there each step of the way and can encourage both parties to talk things out and try to reach compromises that suit everyone.

There are many reasons why you should consider using a divorce mediator instead of using attorneys and fighting it out in court. Here are some reasons why a mediator may be your best choice:

- Cost: A mediator will cost you far less than an attorney and a court battle. Both parties will use the same mediator and split the costs involved. It usually costs about half the price to hire a mediator.

- Control: When using a mediator you have control. You can determine how fast or slow the process goes. You also have the control over figuring out the terms of the divorce. With an attorney you lose most of the control and you are often at the mercy of the court as to how fast or slow the process goes.

- Assistance: With a mediator you get assistance along the way. If you try to do it yourself then you are stuck trying to figure out the often complicated paperwork. The mediator will handle all paperwork for both parties.

- Less stress for everyone: Mediation encourages parties in a divorce to work together. There is less fighting since everyone comes together and works through dividing assets and discussing custody. There is less of a chance for fighting and using children as weapons.

Even if you choose to use a divorce mediator you still have the chance to go to court. If for some reason you can't work things out in mediation you can go to court and let a judge decide. Trying mediation, though, usually will work for most couples. It is often the best choice financially and emotionally.

These things are much harder to do for your children when you are going through an intense court battle. When you use family mediation you can get all of the difficult negotiations and arguments out of the way quickly. Rather than stretching it out and putting everyone through continual pain, you can get to the bottom of all the tough issues and move on.

Since you get to quickly work out disagreements without dragging it through the court system you can move on with your children and put it behind you much faster. Things are going to be very different after the divorce and a lot of confusion is going to come for you and the kids, but at least you don't have to struggle with a difficult divorce in order to start moving forward with your life.

To get the most from your divorce mediation you should choose a mediator carefully. You want to ensure the mediator is trained and knowledgeable about divorce proceedings. Your mediator should not only know the law, but also be good at counseling since he or she will have to help you work through emotions and work together during the process.

If you choose a good mediator and you really give mediation a chance then you should end up with a favorable outcome. Divorce does not have to be difficult. It can be made more comfortable, easier and generally just more tolerable through using a divorce mediator.
