Does Your Child Get Teased At School For Dermatitis

Kids at school have a tendency to point out any imperfection or irregularity they see in another child. This can then avalanche into a number of kids joining in to the teasing. When your child has eczema, he is already in discomfort. The red bumps cause itching and may be further aggravated by clothing used during sports. Your child may have had a troubled sleep due to the fact that the itch sensations may have kept him up. He may already be feeling exhausted before even getting to school.

One of the best ways to help your child avoid social alienation is to speak both with the teacher and other parents about dermatitis. Because kids can bring to school contagious problems such as scabies, lice, measles or chicken pox it is natural that many parents tell their children to keep a distance from anyone with a rash. The problem is that dermatitis is not contagious, but can look like a number of contagious skin problems.

If you have a note from your pediatrician, show it to the teacher to relieve her concerns. When your child has this problem due to allergic reactions to specific foods, also be sure to mention this show the teacher will be careful if other children are passing around peanuts or other treats. Many classes have a monthly birthday party for kids and it can be hard for your child to think about the need to avoid certain foods. It is natural to want to fit in and to feel connected to friends. The kid that can't eat certain foods can feel a bit alone as well as that they are being deprived of something that they love.

Try to call a few of your child's parents to let them know that children cannot catch atopic dermatitis and explain the condition. This will help because parents tend to speak to other parents. If you can get to school when others are picking their children up that is another time to approach them. Sometimes there are outbreaks in schools of scabies or lice and parents want to be sure that nothing contagious is brought into the home.

To help your child from a strong itching sensation during school, there are mild antihistamines that will not cause tiredness. These are also used during allergy season and help reduce the urge to scratch the skin. Point out to your child that not only does scratching the skin make things worse but also can be one of the reasons others are being distant. Remember, that your child is young and just wants to play and connect with others. Do all you can to help during this time and be sure to give additional nurturance and affection to him.
