Unless you have been asleep for the past few years you must have heard about minimalism. Minimalism is the art reaching whatever you want with the minimum required effort.
This doesn't mean that minimalism promotes laziness but instead it focuses on teaching people how to avoid unnecessary effort that they can invest somewhere else.
For example if you work for 8 hours a day then found a way to work for 6 hours a day then you can use those 2 hours in doing something useful such as exercising.
So how can you become a minimalist?
Some people might think that minimalism is all about reducing the number of activities that they do and while that's partially right still that's not what minimalism was meant to be. Here are 5 ways that will help you become a minimalist:
1) End procrastination today! : How many hours do you waste daily on procrastination? How many hours can you save if you ended procrastination? Some people waste more than half of their time checking their mails or even their facebook accounts while they could have saved this time and finished their work earlier. If you are serious about becoming a minimalist then the best way to start is to learn how to end procrastination today.
2) Get rid of emotional attachment: Most people do many routine tasks each day that brings them no benefits. They just do them because they are emotionally attached to them. Examine the work you do everyday and if you found some routine work that brings you no benefit then dare to get over your emotional attachment and to dump that work.
3) Increase your effectiveness: Why write a blog post everyday if you can write a one that becomes popular once every few days. One of the best ways to become a minimalist is to learn how to increase the effectiveness of the tasks you do and so reduce the amount of effort required to reach your goals. I used to go to the gym 5 times a week and then I learned how to get the same results by going for 3 days a week only, that's another good example of minimalism.
4) Don't follow the crowd: most people follow the crowd blindly without thinking rationally about the direction they are moving in. For example here in Egypt where I live 99% of people join college and study for 5 years but in the end many of them work on things that has nothing to do with their college education. Had those people been minimalists they would have saved those 5 years. I am not saying that joining college is a bad thing but certainly joining it just to follow the crowd even if you wont make any use of it is a bad thing.
5) Sleep less: How many hours do you sleep each day? If you sleep more than 7-8 hours then know that you wont become a minimalist before you reduce the number of hours you sleep. This wont only make you healthier but it will give you more spare time to complete your important tasks
