Sewage Treatment Plant and Their Uses rn rn Sewage Treatment Plant helps in removing contaminants from waste water and household sewage. It is done through physical, chemical, and biological processes. The objective behind this treatment is to produce an environmentally safe fluid waste stream and a solid waste that are suitable for disposal or reuse as a fertilizer in farm. The sewage is done using decentralized system where it is collected and delivered through a network of pumps station and pipes to municipal treatment plant. The sewage treatment involves three stages, called primary, secondary and tertiary. rn rn 1. Primary Treatment: It temporary holds the sewage in a quiescent basin. Through it the heavy solids are stored to the bottom while grease and oil float to the surface. This floating and settled material is removed and the left liquid is discharged to secondary treatment. rn rn 2. Secondary Treatment: It helps in removing the dissolved biological matter. It uses the separation process via which micro-organisms is removed from water before discharging or tertiary treatment. rn rn 3. Tertiary Treatment: In this process the treated water is disinfected chemically or physically before discharging it into a stream, river, bay, lagoon or wetland. It is further used for irrigation of a golf course and parks. rn rn How to use Sewage Treatment Plants in Rural Homes rn rn Sewage treatment is easy in urban area as installation cost can be easily bear by the residents. But in rural area is not possible due to lack in money. Hence, there families rely on individual waste treatment systems. The three recognized methods of handling wastes from a rural residence are the stabilization lagoon, the septic tank and the individual aerobic treatment plant. rn rn Aerobic Treatment Plants / Extended Aeration Plants - Installed in areas where conventional septic systems do not function properly. It breaks down the solid and aerate human and domestic wastes. rn rn Anaerobic Treatment Plants / U.A.S.B. Reactor Systems - Suited for the pretreatment of wastewater used for various industrial facilities. It utilizes an anaerobic process, involving naturally-occurring bacteria to break down biodegradable material in an industrial waste stream. rn rn Mobile Sewage Treatment Plants / Fluidized Bed Reactors - Is a compact mobile sewage treatment plant which is loaded in truck or trolley. It provides many benefits over conventional systems based on biological process. rn rn The sewage treatment plant varies as per usages and the money one can invest. Each treatment plant finds its usages in hospitals, research centers and health establishments. rn rn Uses rn rn Sewage treatment plants are widely used nowadays. Private water treatment plants are operated by individuals or organizations but the plants that serve public purpose are generally maintained by government and municipal bodies. Though most of these plants are established on industrial scale, nowadays it is possible to install miniature forms of these plants in housing complexes or in hospitals in order to serve limited purpose.
