Searching For Someone On The Internet, I Recently Just Found Myself!

By: kb

I was searching for someone on the internet recently. I know why I was doing it too...it was me attempting to make some sense of who I was by looking back at how I became this person.

I got the old college yearbook from the attic and started glazing over the old photos with the bad hair and the fading comments and signatures. And I started to realize how much some of these people meant to me at that time.

In my much more limited world back in high school college, these people weren't just bit part players, many of them were stars. Leading role men and women who taught me and showed me and helped me and, guess what...shaped me!

A lot of them, I'm now come to believe, are with me for life. A situation will come up and I will invariably think of them. I'll be driving through Boston (with the crazy drivers) and I'll remember a friend named Mark teaching me about the insanity of rotary driving and how to close your eyes and hit the accelerator to get myself in there. "Quit being a baby, pray, and then just hit the gas!"

I'll think about Los Angeles and I'll instantly think of the guys from my first ad agency and how we would all go down to LAX at night and sit at the leading edge of the runway and watch the planes land right above us, just 500 feet from the 405 Freeway...hoping that a great ad idea would pop up as we smelled the exhaust and tried to scream above the roar of the 767s.

When I find myself searching for someone on the internet I get a wash of emotion when I realize who is there to be found. And how much those people touched me, and probably don't know how much.

So I'll sometimes get so wrapped up, I'll tell them. It's wonderfully uplifting and I defy you to try it and not walk away in a better place.

Searching for someone on the internet will, for me especially, open up memories that I need opened, if only for the day.

Try it, Mikey from Life Cereal told us, you'll like it! Go searching for someone on the internet.
