For drivers who are convicted of various motoring offences, the UK uses a penalty points system to discourage and penalise bad driving. Each endorsement has a unique code, and on a scale from one to 11, the penalty points are added to the licence of the driver. These points also appear on the photo card portion of the driving licence. As having points on your licence is indicative of inappropriate driving, insurance companies will view this as a reason to classify you as a higher risk driver, and usually cover policies for endorsed drivers will be more expensive.
